The Association for the Conservation of Neotropical Carnivores – Pró-Carnívoros is a non-profit Brazilian NGO dedicated to the preservation of Neotropical carnivores.  Founded in 1996 and headquartered in São Paulo, Pró-Carnívoros is a world leader in field research and conservation of carnivores in Brazil and elsewhere in South America.

Our guiding mission is:

To promote the conservation of neotropical carnivores and their habitats.

Pró-Carnívoros uses a diversity of approaches to meet that objective, including:

  • Funding, designing, and carrying out field studies to collect the scientific information necessary for immediate, workable conservation strategies;

  • Educating the general public about the vital roles that carnivores play in the Brazilian ecosystem;

  • Training researchers and managers in carnivore biology and conservation;

  • Strengthening existing conservation areas and lobbying for the establishment of urgently needed new ones;

  • Designing genetic management programs for carnivore populations when necessary;

  • Mediating and working to lessen conflicts caused by jaguar predation on domestic cattle;

  • Promoting carnivore conservation in Brazilian and international environmental politics.
